Speaker	:	Ir Dr. Dominic Yu B.Eng.(Civil), M.Sc.(Fire), Ph.D.(Structural), MHKIE, MHKISC, MHKICA Principal, Alpha Consulting Limited Ir Dr. Dominic YU is a research engineering-based specialist in the structural design and use of glass. He is Principal of Alpha Consulting Limited, providing consultancy services on glass and facade engineering, non-linear integrated design and analysis, structural fire engineering analysis and design, steel and composite design etc. He is a Part-time Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering Programme of University of Central Lancashire & CityU SCOPE. He is also a Visiting Lecturer for MSc Module of Façade Engineering in the Civil Engineering Programme at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before joining Alpha Consulting Limited, Dr. Yu served as a Specialist Test Consultant and Approved Signatory of Research Engineering Development Façade Consultants Limited (RED Façade and Fire HOKLAS Testing Laboratory). Dr. Yu obtained Doctoral Degree of Philosophy in Structural Engineering, Master Degree in Fire Safety Engineering, and Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to serve as a Technical Secretary of the consultancy study contributing to the “Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Steel 2005” and the 2011 version. He also compiled the Explanatory Materials of the Steel Code for Buildings Department. Dr. Yu is Professional Consultant for Consultancy Study of “Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Glass 2018” for Buildings Department. Dr. Yu is also actively serving the industry and the university by delivering various technical seminars and lectures. He delivered over 120 technical seminars in various institutions including HKIE, HKISC, HKIS, RICS, HKICW, CASA, HKFA, BD, ArchSD, etc., in which over 90 seminars since 2012 in the topic related to “Glass and Façade Engineering” from Statutory Requirements, Analysis, Design, Testing, Quality Control, Production, Practical Consideration, Installation and Inspection.

Details	:	There is an increasing trend in the use of curtain wall systems in residential buildings, commercial buildings, and retails in Hong Kong. With reference to Clause C10.2 of CoP Fire Safety in Buildings 2011, fire stop separation and continuous smoke seal in a curtain wall system should be provided to prevent fire and smoke spread between floors. Fire resistance test report or certificate of fire stop and smoke control test report of smoke seal should be submitted for the Code compliance. Vertical spandrel should be provided in general to prevent external fire spread as stated in Clause C11.1 of FS Code. However, it is important to distinguish the difference between fire stop separation of curtain wall and fire spandrel of an external façade. Fire-rated curtain wall will be introduced together with the necessary requirements and associated fire resistance test according to BS EN 1364-3. The speaker will share the design considerations of curtain wall and façade systems from the selection of material to the application and the practicality of different systems. The design, application and practice consideration for fire stop and smoke seal will be discussed in this webinar.

1.	The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
2.	A registration number will be generated for each application. The registration number is unique and non-transferrable. Members cannot proceed to payment if they do not apply the CPD event and obtain the registration number through the HKIS website.
3.	Payment can be made by cheque or by Credit Card (Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. / American Express). Cheques should be made payable to “SURVEYORS SERVICES LTD.”. A separate cheque or Credit Card payment instruction form is required for each event/ application. You should write down the registration number and HKIS membership number at the back of your cheque. The HKIS Secretariat will update the payment status and your application will be confirm when HKIS Secretariat receive your payment.
4.	Payment by PayPal is also acceptable. Please register in our web site before the closing date for each event. Please be reminded that if you cannot settle the payment within 7 days from the date the HKIS Secretariat accepted your registration, your registration number will be invalid and your application will be rejected. Your name will not be included in the registration list and you cannot attend the concerned CPD event. (Not applicable for site visit / social event / joint event with other organisation)
5.	An official receipt which must be presented at the event, will be available for downloading from the "CPD Profile" under Members Corners when payment is received.
6.	Incomplete or wrongly completed registration will not be processed.
7.	In the event a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, the event will be postponed and a new arrangement will be announced. Should the aforesaid warnings be lowered 4 hours before the event, the event will proceed as normal.
8.	If you have not received any reply from HKIS Secretariat within 7 days of the event, you may call the Secretariat at 2526 3679 to check the progress of your registration.
9.	The HKIS reserves the right of final decision and interpretation in the case of any disputes.
