Details :

At present, Drainage Services Department maintains over 4,000 km length of underground stormwater drains and sewers. It is important to carry out regular pipe condition surveys to assess and classify the structural conditions of the drains and sewers for the formulation of action plans for preventive maintenance works. However, owing to various constraints including the high flow and traffic conditions, DSD has been facing difficulties in revealing the structural conditions of some pipes by conventional pipe survey methods. Besides, the existing drains and sewers built decades ago have been deteriorating at an unprecedented fast rate and need urgent pipe rehabilitation works, thus bringing big challenges to the proper functioning of the drainage and sewerage systems. To tackle the above issues, DSD has been adopting new methodologies and implementation strategy for pipe condition survey and rehabilitation works.

With the result from the condition survey, pipe rehabilitation and improvement works can be carried out to restore the structural integrity and service conditions of the underground stormwater drainage and sewerage networks.
