PDD/GPD Joint Fellowship Dinner on 18 March 2010 On 18 March 2010, the Planning and Development Divisional Council will join hand with the General Practice Divisional Council to organize a "Joint Fellowship Dinner" for enhancing the cohesion and communication among members of the two divisions. Details of the venue and associated arrangements will be communicated to members shortly. Members are cordially welcome to join the dinner. 2010 兩岸四地土地研討會 As regards the planned 2010 兩岸四地土地研討會 which will be held in Hong Kong, Mr. Edwin Tsang has been nominated by the Council to take up a key role in the HKIS Organizing Team. The Team will be chaired by our HKIS President whilst the HKIS will act as host at the 2010 Conference. Accreditation of B.Sc. (Hons.) Surveying, The HK Polytechnic University Having considered the report submitted by the PDD Accreditation Working Group, the HKIS Board of Education endorsed the Working Group's recommendation to approve the B.Sc. (Hons.) Surveying Course offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as satisfying the minimum academic qualification for admission to the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) scheme leading to corporate membership of the HKIS Planning and Development Division. In this connection, the HKIS formally wrote to the Building and Real Estate Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 28 January 2010 informing them of the aforesaid accreditation decision. Certainly it is a great breakthrough for our Division's new membership take-in as our gate of APC is now being opened for all suitable graduates of the B.Sc. (Hon.) Surveying Course offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We shall of course take further action in raising the surveying graduates' awareness of the PDD APC. Assessment of Professional Competence I am pleased to advise you that one candidate has already submitted her APC Final Report and the Council is now arranging the APC Professional Interview for her in due course. CPD Events In March 2010, we shall have two CPD events arranged and the details of these events were published in the January HKIS Newsletter. On 1 March 2010, the CPD Talk on "Revitalizating Industrial Buildings" was offered by Mr. Lauire Lo, Head of Development Opportunities Office of the HKSAR Government Development Bureau. Mr. Lo briefed members on the policy objective and government initiatives to promote revitalization of old industrial buildings. On 11 March 2010, Dr. Chan Lai Kiu, Director of Design and Project of the Hysan Development Company Limited will deliver a CPD talk on "Adding Value Through Design"; sharing insights on optimizing and enhancing the value of a development through design. Moreover, Mr. Edwin Tsang has proposed to arrange a health talk in late April 2010 concerning stress and depression in workplace. Details of this CPD talk will be announced by the HKIS Secretariat in due course.
